Stables and environment

The stable complex comprises 5 new purpose built stables (supplied and erected in 1999 by Jim McConville Stables). 3 of the stables are 12’ x 12’(3.66m x 3.66m) and 2 are 18’ x 12’ (5.49m x 3.66m). These light airy stables are the traditional English type used across the UK often in large professional yards as well as private situations too. All of our stables are equipped with individual vents, full-height wooden kick-boards, extra-large stable doors covered by overhang, automatic waterers, salt/mineral licks and galvanized hayracks. From our own experience we have found these stables, and wooden loose-boxes in general, to be well insulated and lovely and warm in winter – much warmer than equivalent brick or concrete stables; even when compared to the "UK American barn" style as is often the case with agricultural shed conversions. Furthermore, by the nature of their design, our stables allow horses to self-regulate their own ventilation. Another general observation here is the much lower population of flies and other insects. In addition to this the ambient levels of airborne dust particles and pollen are much less here than in lower lying areas.

All of these factors combine to provide a most agreeable stable environment which, in turn, contributes to a less stressed and more comfortable lifestyle promoting the general well-being of horses.
